Freeze Frame Time

I have never in my life wanted to freeze time as much as I do now. There is something about being parents that makes life go by so much faster. There are moments with your children you wish you could, in fact, freeze time. I love the song by Brandon Rhyder. It reminds me of our journey with Cash and how fortunate we are to have him here. The lyrics in the song say, "Surrounded by nature likens the innocence of a new born child. Sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we cry..and it's moments like this that make me wish I could freeze frame time." We've laughed and we've cried on this journey with him. The Lord continues to bless us and amaze us, in this sweet baby we've named Cash. Here's a little glimpse of 'our moments' here lately with him.

He's taken 4 steps over the past week and added 4 words to his vocabulary, for a total of 11 words. He has learned to crawl faster than I can run. He can convince you it's okay to do something even though you've told him no 5 times. (What? He's just too cute to not let a few things slide) When you say no, he says, "Uh uh." This week he has taken up pointing. Pointing in recognition to names, objects and his favorite babies. He LOVES to see pictures of himself. In particular, the one on the refrigerator. It's a NICU picture Pops had printed for all of us. He'll point, you'll take him to it, and he says "Ohhh," and then he wants to kiss the baby over and over and over. That never gets old.

Last week he started being more clingy. That's okay, unless we are trying to get ready and have to put him down. He doesn't just cry, he becomes devistated. His face turns bright red and he sobs. I think this may be the beginning of the "don't leave me stage." The fix? Besides picking him up, music. He loves music! We don't play 'kiddie' music that often unless it's on the TV. So he listens to whatever we listen to. Which includes: Daddy playing the guitar and singing, christian, country, and pop. Even some (do not judge) Michael Jackson. Lol. I know, kind of weird, but it's my brother's CD and he loves it. Abrham will dance with him to Michael Jackson and Cash thinks it's the funniest thing in the world. Cash also loves to two-step with me. On my hip, his hand in mine, Daddy playing the guitar. He could do it for hours. I hope he never grows out of that.

Last Saturday we let him play the drums for the first time at Pops and Grams house. As you can see, he knew exactly what he was doing. Let's pray he's blessed musically like his Daddy.

He is no longer interested in baby food, unless of course it's bananas. He would eat bananas off the floor, if I would let him. He does still like Puffs. (Made by Gerber Graduates, a soft cereal that dissolves in his mouth.) I think he will eat these until he is 15. We CANNOT go anywhere without them on hand. Table food is the food of choice though, and I don't blame him. Baked potatoes, corn, green beans, chicken, mac and cheese, black eyed peas, apples, yougurt and bread. We haven't given him anything he will not eat. Thank you Lord for a wonderful eater. It makes our life so much easier! He is still taking a bottle, but not as often. They are wanting him to stay on formula for another couple of months and then we will try weening him off. (Dreading that day).

Driving in the car with Cash has become more and more entertaining. Before, a drive in the car meant a nice long nap for baby Cash. Lately it's turned into a jabber fest. I wish we knew what he was talking about. I laugh because I see him as an old man telling story after story to his grandkids. He makes the funniest faces and expressions when he's talking. Whatever story he's telling is a good one. Random "Da-da's and Ma-Ma's" are thrown in to keep our attention.

His favorite toy right now- remote controls and cells phones. He's only ruined 1 remote control, which in my opinion isn't bad compared to the slobber ratio, and the fact he likes to use them to hit things and people including Daddy. At our friend Trey and Stephanie's house he's been given "his own cell phone and remote control." As I said before, "Spoiled any?" He also loves the laptop. In the picture below I caught him playing with while Daddy wasn't looking.

His favorite show is Sesame Street unless he's at Pops and Grams and then it's The Wiggles (thank you Aunt Mal-Mal). I don't know if you have seen the Wiggles or not but Dustin hates them. In retrospect they are Dads, with kids of their own, trying to make a living doing educational videos. Dustin wishes however, they would choose not to frolic around in mutli-colored, rainbow tights. Sesame Street has changed alot over the years, but Cash's favorite character is Elmo. Elmo makes his day. He will literally stop whatever he is doing. Eating, playing, crying..and watch Elmo. He claps when the song comes on and watches to the very end of the show. Dustin and I enjoy it as much as he does.

Dogs are also on the list of his priorities at the moment. As Cash calls them, (Gogs.) Today however, he did manage to say dog correctly. He will crawl to the back door at his grandparent's houses and talk away to the gogs. Really he yells at them, but it's a cheerful yell. The dogs acknowledge him every time and if they try to walk away he yells louder. It's adorable. When we are at a house with a backdoor, he finds it, and says, "Gog?" It's sad when there are none because he will continue to stand at the door waiting for them to come.

Mirrors can entertain our child for hours. If there is a mirror he will be in front of it. We have a wardrobe mirror in our room and if you can't find him, check there first. He talks to himself, laughs at himself, and dances in front of it. He also pulls it ontop of himself. Thank goodness it's not heavy because he pulls it down all the time.

He has also learned to shut doors. Doors are always shut in the house, not to save on the air conditioning, but because he is always behind them shutting them. It's pointless to open a door with him around because he will shut it. For instance, I was picking out some shoes to wear to work this evening and he shut me in the closet. Cute, but tiring. Open, close, open close. On the bright side, at least they don't lock. Then we'd really have a problem.

In closure again I go back to freezing time. I love every minute of every day we get to spend with this wonderful blessing from God. Our lives wouldn't be the same without him. So I thank you Lord, for giving us a beautiful son who brings a smile to our face every day. Because I cannot freeze time, pictures will have to do. The funny ones, the embarassing ones, the "we caught you" ones. The sad ones when we have to visit the icky hospital and the ones when we get to be home as a family. We love you Cash and are so happy God has allowed us to be your parents.  Xoxo
